It's Seeger's senior Rebecca Haussin's fourth and last year qualifying for the state meet. Haussin will compete at the legendary IUPUI pool this weekend as she takes on the the best the state has to offer.
She is ranked 30th in the 100 butterfly and 29th in the 50 yard freestyle.
This would not be Haussin's first time qualifying for the state meet this year, she made her state debut back in January when she competed at the IHSAA Cross Country state meet.
It is clear that the Seeger senior is a well-rounded athlete but made it clear she plans on sticking with swimming after high school choosing to swim at either the University of Indianapolis or DePauw University.
Becoming a state qualifier in two different sports can sometimes make it hard to decide which to proceed, but not for Haussin.
"Swimming is the sport that I fell in love with as a kid. I didn't develop an interest in the other 2 until high school. That's kinda what I use to motivate myself during my races."
Huaussin makes her busy schedule seem like a walk in the park
"Time management is key. Any free time during the day is spent doing any homework I've accumulated because at night I'll have practice and then some nights I'll have band concerts (like tonight) and I have goats so I have to work with them as well. I have to do everything In a timely manner because I have FCA every Wednesday morning and on Tuesday and Thursday mornings I have science academic team."
Haussin also swims club and will be a 10 year 4H member this year. You wonder how does a high school senior balance all the responsibilities.
"It is a lot to tackle but I feel that the more things I'm involved in the more I'm forced to use my time wisely which is a good life lesson Swim practice tends to be my escape from all of the other things. It's my relaxation time."
Back in January two of Haussin's friends were in a major car accident. Ethan Lee suffered injuries but survived while Braeden Hollowell passed away at 18 years of age. Haussin admits that the tragedy has made her stronger.
"I was stuck in both of my individual events at the same time all season until a friend of mine passed away and from that moment on I vowed that I would make every stroke count and the first meet after his accident I dropped my time in both events."
It is clear Braeden Hollowell was watching over her and will continue to be watching over her this weekend when Haussin competes at the IHSAA girls state swimming and diving meet.
It is clear that Haussin is not just swimming for herself anymore.
