SWIMMERS TO WATCH OUT FOR: Sydney Dobson, a senior, returns to lead the Bombers to what could be their most successful season in a long time. Dobson is the school record holder in the backstroke but was hit with mono mid-season but recovered just enough to compete in sectionals but not to her full potential. Dobson finished fourth in the 50 freestyle and second in the backstroke in the consolation finals. Lauren Powell, a junior, was and still is the Bombers best chance in the distance events. Powell finished third in both the 200 and 500 freestyle. She finally got her best in the 200 last season. If she can do the same in the longer distance, she will be deadly. Ava Davisson, a junior, played a huge role for the Bombers last year as their breaststroker. Davisson placed fifth in the consolation final of the breaststroke. Two KV breststroker finished just ahead of Davisson in the consolation final. If Rensselaer wants to have any chance of besting their fellow KV rivals, this event is crucial for Davisson. Sonny Anderson, a junior did not hve the best of sectionl meets. Even though she was a few seconds off her personal best in the 100 butterfly she still managed to make it back to finals the next day. Anderson competed in the consolation final where she placed fifth. Her best time could have placed her second. She will be one the team looks to, to score some big points. Morgan Garrity, a Senior, surprised everyone by making it back to the sectional finals last season. She finished seventh in the consolation final of the 500 freestyle. She will be looked to help fill the distance events and for leadership. UP AND COMERS: Ava Jackson, a Sophomore, seems to be following in older brothers footsteps in the distance events. Last season she had a solid first sectional meet as a freshman. Her 500 times continue to improve. At the sectional meet she just missed making it back to finals in the breaststroke. She was a huge contributor last season and will only build off of what she has already accomplished. Holly Johnson, a Sophomore, seems to have had a pretty successful sectional last season. She competed in the consolation final of the 100 butterfly and also helped the Bombers place seventh in the championship final of the 200 freestyle relay. Johnson is pretty well-rounded and adds tremendous depth to this new team. HEROES: A group of freshman are coming in that are said to make big waves for the Bombers. Hannah Hall, Lauren McGowan, Hailey Henry, Sophie Michael and Ally Armold. Hall is already ranked second on the team in the breaststroke coming in . She will also contribute greatly in the sprint freestyle events along with the butterfly. Henry is known for her sprint freestyle but like Hall she is very accomplished in the butterfly and breaststroke. They have needed a swimmer like Henry since the graduation of Leslie Smith. Henry will be a huge asset. McGowan will help fill the butterfly spots on the team and the much needed IM slots. McGowan is well-rounded and like the rest has a chance to do something special this season. Michael comes in as the only single event record holder of this group. She owns her club teams age group record in the 100 backstroke. The Bombers can ease up knowing they have two accomplished backstrokers in the water. Michael is also a strong IMer and mid-distance freestyler. Armold is a bit of a late bloomer when compared to these girls. Mostly known for her sprint freestyle. Armold may just shock a few people |
