Lilly King took first in the Women's 100 meter breaststroke at the junior Pan Pacific championship meet in a blistering time of 1:07.98. That time broke the junior pan pacific meet record along with her own national age group record. King posted a 1:09.43 at the Phillips 66 National Championships and her 1:07.98, that she posted would have placed her sixth at the senior pan pacific meet. Coming out of U.S. nationals King was ranked the sixth fastest U.S. breaststroker, so maybe the Olympics is not such a crazy conversation to have between King and her coach. Jessica Hardy posted a very impressive 1:06.74 and Breeja Larson's 1:06.99 was no laughing matter either. Micah Lawrence posted a 1:07.16 but we all know she can go faster than that. Back at U.S. Nationals she went a 1:06.51. But King seems to be answering the call very well. She continues to improve and every time she swims she seems to learn a bit more about her race. With the Olympics two years away, King has plenty of time to own her already impressive skills. Going 1:06 low by then would not be so crazy. She has not even started senior year of high school swimming yet. If she ends up in the A-Final of the 100 breaststroke at the U.S. Olympic trials, well, that would not be so shocking. She will be a factor when the time comes. | |
